[Aldine Imprint: With Dolphin and Anchor printer's device on title: Ancient Medicine]  Small 4to, 21 x 14 cm.  Bound in 19th century calf.  Blind tooled covers and spine.  Red morocco spine label. Aldine anchor on the back of the last sheet. Pages are generally clean and white, as expected from a 16th century Venetian work. 

One of the earliest Roman medical works, in the first and only edition from the Aldine press, containing the poem "De mediana" by Quintus Serenus. First published in Florence in 1478, Celsus's work was among the first printed medical texts. "The De Medicina is the oldest medical document after the Hippocratic writings. Written about A.D. 30, it remains the greatest medical treatise from ancient Rome, and the first Western history of medicine ...
