[The Iconography of America] Allegorical figure showing America, represented by a seated women in red and white. A soaring eagle with the motto of the United States perched on top. The border reads, "United States of America: Peace, Liberty, Plenty. Trampling on Oppression." 20 states are listed in the border. In many earlier depictions of America, the figure is shown as an American Indian. In this image America is depicted as a seated Caucasian women, with rosy cheeks, holding an olive branch, with her foot on top of oppression.
Frame dimensions: 20 x 24 inches (51 x 61 cm). Image dimensions: 36 x 46 cm. Framed, under glass. Some chips to gilt frame. Inscribed by author, H. D. Ersele. Not exampled out of frame. (Note: another example of this print exists in the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts, ref: PEM199346)
