Gilt spine compartments. Minor shelf wear, a few scuffs. 28.5 x 21.8 cm. Heavy foxing throughout. 148 steel-engraved, tissue-guarded plates. Each portrait includes a facsimile signature.
Some of the notables include: President Ulysses S. Grant; Hannibal Hamlin (ME), William P. Fessenden (ME), Frederick T. Frelinghuysen (NJ), James A. Garfield (OH, future President), Robert C. De Large (Senator, South Carolina, African American) and Robert B. Elliott, (Senator, South Carolina, African American). Quite scarce.
