Whitefield was an English Anglican cleric who was one of the founders of Methodism and the evangelical movement.  Whitefield was a moderate Calvinist.  He preached and travelled extensively in the British American colonies often to enormous crowds.   He left an indelible mark on the nature of evangelical Christianity.  He died in 1770 in Newburyport, Massachusetts.
