Lactantius was an early Christian apologist (c. 240 – c. 320) and advisor to Emperor Constantine.  This work collects his suriving writings, notably Divinae institutiones ("Divine Institutions"); De Mortibus Persecutorum ("On the Deaths of the Persecutors"); De Ira Dei ("On the Wrath of God"); De Opificio Dei ("The Works of God"); Epitome of the Divine institutes; etc.  In his writings Lactantius argues in favor of Christianity against the then dominant pagan cults and the recognition of one god as the single Supreme Being.  Lactantius was an important early Christian humanist, who helped establish the argument for Christianity.
