Aldrich (of Boston) from Oliver Wendell Holmes, including 20 words, signed "OWH".  The letter pertains to the condition of Mrs. Holmes.  Includes related ephemera, including a small mounted news clipping of Mrs. Holmes death in 1888.  Bound in publisher's 1/2 white cloth over blue boards.  Clean, unmarked pages. Provenance: Engraved book plate of Thomas Bailey Aldrich inside front cover.  Aldrich, 1836-1907, was a noted writer, critic, poet and editor in his own right.  He was widely influential and well know by the 19th century Ameican literary society. He edited The Atlantic Monthly (1881-1890, first publishing the works of Longfellow, Thomas Hardy, and Henry James), as well as a number of other magazines.  During the Civil War he edited the New York Illustrated News.  Aldrich and Holmes were frequent correspondents.  Harvard Library (See: Oliver Wendell Holmes letters to Thomas Bailey Aldrich, Houghton Library, 1824-1894) contains and extensive collection of their correspondence, with over 58 individual letters.  BAL 9060.
