[Important French Reference Work on Fantastic Fiction of the 18th Century] 41 volume set. Early French binding.   Leather-backed boards, with vellum tips. Good bindings.  Scattered foxing, but generally clean.  119 figures by Marillier engraved by Berthet, Biosse, Choffard, Delignon, Delvaux, de Ghendt, Langlois, Legrand, de Longueil, Textier, etc.

Provenance: Book plates of the Bibliotheque du Chateau du Tremblay (1856) and later book plate of the American author, Samuel Shellabarger (1888-1954). Shellabarger, (Princeton, 1909), wrote popular historical fiction.  Some of his novels were set in France.
