Bound in contemporary speckled calf.  Spine decorated in 6 gilt compartments.  Head of spine chipped, joints flaking, partially cracked.  Internally in good condition, without markings or staining.  [8], 314, [14] pages. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Moliere by Benoit Audran after the painting by Pierre Mignard.  Grimarest's biography had a directive influence on subsequent biographies of Moliere, despite errors and omissions decried by Boileau and Voltaire.  Lacroix 983
