Ownership signature of David Howell (1747-1824), a delegate from Rhode Island in the Continental Congress (1782-1785) and a member of the United States District Court. Signed by Howell on the title page. An inscription on the first free leaf notes: "Bequeathed to G. Dwight by his hon'd grandfather David Howell Saturday, November 13th 1824". Gamaliel Lyman Dwight (1809-1854) was the son of Sarah Cooke Howell, Howell's daughter.
