  A narrative of the capture of a family of Quaker settlers and in Carbon County, Pennsylvania by a Mohawk war party during the American Revolution.  The Mohawks, led by Rowland Monteur, were under British command operating out of Fort Niagara, New York, during the Revolutionary War. 15 people were taken prisoner by the war band.  The Gilbert family was released upon the group's arrival at Fort Niagara and transported to Montreal, although Benjamin Gilbert died on the journey.  Some of the captives were adopted by Indian families near Niagara.  The remaining captives were released by 1782.  Gold and leather bookplate of Frank C. Deering.  Deering (Saco, Maine, 1866-1936) was a well-known Americana book collector who had a particular interest in Indian Narratives and Captivities.  Goodspeed's shop of Boston sold his collection in 1949.  Later owned by the Mellon / Lloyd family of Upperville, VA.
