Edwin S. McCook was the acting Governor of Dakota Terr. and a Civil War Union General from Ohio. McCook was assassinated in office in 1873 before he was able to be appointed governor. McCook's signature and compliments to Major J.M. Stone written on front paste down. Stone was an Indian agent and associate of Sitting Bull.
