"Owsei Temkin was a director of the Institute of the History of Medicine at Johns Hopkins. Temkin was known as one of the world's foremost experts on the interaction of medicine and culture throughout history. He published hundreds of articles and a dozen books on the history of medicine, including the history and philosophy of Greco-Arabic medicine. His book, The Falling Sickness, a study of views on epilepsy through the ages, has achieved wide renown. Temkin received the Welch Medal and the Sarton Prize and was elected to the American Philosophical Society, the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences." - Johns Hopkins Medical Institute <br> William Barry Wood Jr., MD, was head of the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis from 1942-1955. He attended Harvard as an undergraduate and went on to Johns Hopkins Medical School, receiving his medical degree in 1936. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School, he went on to become a full-time faculty member at Johns Hopkins. Wood played quarterback for Harvard during the 1929-1931 seasons and was one of the most prominent football players of his time. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1980.
