[Welsh Family Bible : Original Bible of  Johan Heinrich "Henry" Welsh of York Co. PA, Revolutionary War Veteran] [Biblia Germanica]  Folio, 38.5 x 26.5 cm.  Bound in attractive, contemporary, blind-tooled pigskin.   Original brass boss at all four corners and rear.  Brass and leather clasps.  Good binding.  [92], 1181, [23] pages, illustrations (including portraits).  Twentieth edition of the Dilherrische Bibel.  Scattered soiling, browning.  Minor edge tearing from use to a few pages. German, Lutheran bible.   

  Family Bible of John Henry (Johan Heinrich) Welsh (1748 - 1827).    Welsh was born in York County, PA and lived in Hanover (and perhaps Littlestown in Adams County).  He served as a Lieutenant in Colonel McAllister's regiment in the Revolutionary War.  Welsh also served as an Officer in the War of 1812.  He is buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania.  He married Christiana Hubbert in 1771 and had children: George Johann; Jacob; Ann Elizabeth (Welch) Melsheimer.  Two hand written genealogical pages from the 18th century give Johan Heinrich's birth, marriage, and the births of his children and other details.  Includes additional loose ephemera and receipts from the early 19th century, some in English, some German.  This Bible was kept in the family until the death of his great-grandson, Paul C. Welsh.
