Folio, 35 cm. Three parts in one. Half-title, 116 fine copper engraved plates and 3 engraved sectional titles. Contemporary calf, 6 raised bands. Red leather spine label. Marbled endpapers, page ends washed red. Library stamps to several titles and text pages. Marginal spotting and occasional dampstaining. Plates are generally clean and in excellent condition. An illustrated work on clay oil lamps discovered in ancient Roman catacombs. BMC XXII, 617.2; Cicognara 3609. Provenance: Armorial Bookplate of Fairman Rogers. Rogers subsequently donated this book to the Philadelphia Academy of the Fine Arts in 1881. Rogers was a noted engineer, UPenn professor, member of the American Philosophical Society (at 24), and civil war veteran (served at Gettysburg). Rogers served as the chairman of the building committee of the Philadelphia Academy of the Fine Arts.
