[Early Massachusetts Bay Colonial ownership of the Jeffers, Jerfford, Jefferd family.] Rear page has Elizabeth Randell (ne Jeffords)' signature. Elizabeth has signed her name and that she is the "daughter of Aaron and Mary Jefferds; born 1683". Her parents were second generation Massachusetts Bay colonists. Aaron and Mary (Blackleach) were married in 1673 in Boston. Elizabeth was one of their six children (baptized in Boston). Additional early signature of Thomas Popkin. Later signature of Hezekiah Earl (signed circa 1838, Earl is presumed to have lived in Boston and worked for the city as a clerk during that time.). Later book plate of James B. Clapp, Boston, 1873. Bound in contemporary, paneled calf. Boards detached. Title page restored, but trimmed, with loss. Dedication page missing part of the page at the bottom corner. First gathering loose. A worn copy, with interesting provenance. Third edition.
