In 1925 the Voluntary Parenthood League merged with the American Birth Control League. The founder, Mary Ware Dennett, was famously convicted for "mailing obscene matter" under the Comstock Act. Dennett had written "The Sex Side of Life," a for her two adolescent sons and the work was mailed to other sex educators. She worked tireless for the repeal of anti-contraception legislation for much of her life.
