The author, Father Michael Chamich or Tchantchian, was a native of Istanbul, who migrated to Venice in the mid-18th-century and joined the Mukhitharian society of San Lazaro, all of whose members were Catholic clerics. His History of Armenia, first published in three quarto volumes in 1786, was followed by an abridgement in 1811 which became the basis of the present translation by John Avdall, a member of the Asiatic Society of Bengal, who continued the history down to 1827." - Christies, 2010.
