From the library of Dr. Arthur W. Hummel, noted US diplomat and former US Ambassador to Burma (1968-1971), Ethiopia (1975-1976), Pakistan (1977-1981), and China (1981-1985). As Ambassador to China, Hummel notably negotiated the third US-China communique that led to the normalization of ties between the PRC and the US. Hummel was also a director of Voice of America and fought with Chinese guerrillas against Japanese forces in WWII, after being initially interned in a Japanese concentration camp after Pearl Harbor.
