Bound in handsome, contemporary calf.  Gilt spine compartments, with a floral motif.  Gilt spine labels on red and green morocco.  Very good bindings and covers, with only minor shelf wear. All edges red.  Marbled end sheets.  Pages are generally clean and unmarked. Engraved title pages.  Small stain at the margin of tome VI effecting two pages. 

Pietro Trapassi (1698-1782), better known as Metastasio, was regarded as one of the greatest poets of the 18th century; his libretti were set to music by numerous prominent composers. Dauze, page 770. Brunet,III-1676. A tenth volume, not included here, was published later in 1769.
