French translation of Micali's, "L'Italia avanti il dominio dei Romani, col corredo degli Antichi monumenti e con alcuni cambiamenti prima di tutto stilistici." First published in 1810, Micali's work was in part an attempt to free Italy from the historiological domination of the Roman Empire.  Micali wanted to use archeological finds to reconstruct the culture and origins of the Italian aboriginal populations, which he believed were obscured by the works of classical historians, such as Thucydides, Livy, and Tacitus.  Micali's work was influenced by his posting in revolutionary Paris with the Tuscan delegation.  The growth of republican and national consciousness throughout Europe created by the intellectual waves of the French revolution propelled Micali on a proto-Italian nationalist course.  In 1821, a second edition was published with great improvement that reflected a greater emphasis on historical evidence, this set is a translation of the 2nd Italian ed.  MICALI, Giuseppeby Fabio Bertini - Biographical Dictionary of Italians - Volume 74 (2010).
