Provenance: From Senator Henry Cabot Lodge's estate. Henry Cabot Lodge's book plate on verso of all volumes. With the coat of arms and motto "Spero Infestis Metuo Secundis." Lodge was a noted leader of the Senate in the early part of the 20th century. This copy was later owned by Lodge's grandson, Senator Henry Lodge, Jr., a Senator, Republican Vice presidential candidate in the first Nixon campaign, and US Ambassador.
