[Historiography of Mexico: Early Spanish Imprint] 4to, 21 cm. Bound in vellum, with manuscript lettered spine. [40], 167, [9], 96 pages.  Engraved frontispiece. Light penumbra of foxing to the margin of some of the pages, but still a handsome copy. In this work, Benaducci considered how to write a new history of ancient Mexico drawing on new forms of historical evidence, primarily Nahua vocabularies.  The last 96 pages of the book include as an appendix: "Catalogo del Museo Historico Indiano."  The catalogo contains a detailed list of the author's important collection of books and manuscripts (colonial indigenous codices).  Benaducci had one of the largest mid-17th century collections of Mexican codices and art.  Many of these works were later destroyed.
