Architect George Ashdown Audsley was renowned for his concentrated study of ornament. "This study found expression in a long list of scholarly and lavishly produced books on ornament and illumination which form, even more than his work as a practicing architect, the foundation of his wide reputation" (DAB). Gems of Japanese Art is divided into sections on Painting and Color Printing, Embroidery, Textile Fabrics, Lacquer, Incrusted-Work, Metal-Work, Cloisonne, and Modelling and Carving. All plates as called for in table of contents. This is an oversized or heavy book, that requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.
