Interestingly, from an American perspective is the poem dedicated to the United States, "United States, your banner wears two emblems - one of fame ; Alas, the other that it bears Reminds us of your shame. Your standard's constellation types White freedom by its stars; But what's the meaning of the stripes?  They mean your negroes' scars." *Autographed by author.*  Campbell was a popular Scottish poet of the early 19th century. He is buried in Westminster Cathedral in Poet's Corner.
