Title page lists 1875, but the dedication page states second ed, 1882. This is the Second edition published in 1882 with an additional preface by the Gansevoort's sister not in the 1875 edition. The collected letters of Col. Gansevoort, a cousin of Herman Melville. He served in the 5th U.S. Artillery at Antietam and Second Bull Run during the war, and later commanded a fort at Pensacola.
