The majority of the legislation deals with the Texas militia and authorizing the defense against Mexican and Indian incursions. Texas was in a precarious state of peril. Sam Houston served as Vice President and later in the session when he became President, Mirabeau B. Lamar served as VP. David G. Burnet (or S.H. Everitt) headed the Senate and John M.
