Collection of 3 works bound in one, related to the early planning of the Panama Canal.   Quarto, 30 cm. Contemporary calf, red and black leather spine labels. Collated: 304 pp. 26 folding plates; 124 pp.: 8 (of 13) folding plates; 41 pp., 5 folding plates. Rubbing, minor fray to spine. Hinges cracking, rear joint split. Internally very good. Panama folding plates have minor wear along folds. Spurred on by triumphant completion of the French Suez canal building project in in 1869, the United States pursued the possibility of an Isthmian canal route.
