Bound in vellum.  Edges worn, joints splitting.  [3], 404, [28], [2] pages.  Wood cut title with arms and devices of Cosimo de' Medici, oval woodcut portrait of author on verso, 82 woodcuts in the text (1 double-page). Internally generally in good condition.  Some dampstaining to rear most leaves.  Rear most page of index restored. First Renaissance work on architecture.  Modelled on Vitruvius' work, Alberti divided his treatise on architecture into ten books.   Published in Latin in 1485, Cosimo Bartoli provided the first Italian edition in 1550.  This, 'the most influential version of Alberti' (RIBA), was the second edition.  Raphael, Serlio and Palladio were influenced by the work.  Fowler 9; Adams A489; Cicognara 375; Gamba 1186.
