Hutter was a German Hebraist and tutor to the Elector of Saxony. Due to the patronage of Rudolf II he established a printing press at Nuremberg where he printed bibles and religious works.

Hutter's work was "remarkable for being printed with radical letters in black; the servile in hollow types; the quiescent, or deficient letters, in small characters above the line." Watt, Bibliotheca Britannica, 1824, 529-530 p. Adams 1244. (Also printed in 1597, 1598)
